Marble is a beautiful natural stone that will add tremendous value and elegance to your home or business.  Marble is created when limestone is subjected to intense pressure and heat within the earth causing the crystals in the rock to reorganize into exquisite colors and patterns.  Often times there are fossils, primarily coral, that are incorporated into the makeup of the stone.  Marble is rich and diverse in colors and can be found in deep reds, creamy yellows, sparkling whites, verdant greens and traditional black.

Due to the natural veins and patterns, marble is a popular stone to use for flooring throughout a home and is often used when remodeling bathrooms.  Because marble is a form of limestone, it is susceptible to acidic and abrasive materials, and therefore is not as suitable for kitchen countertops as other stones such as granite or porcelain. 

If marble tiles are bent or stretched they will crack easily.  Therefore, having a perfectly even sub-floor is critical when installing a marble tile floor.  This can be accomplished using dry pack cement or another type of leveling concrete. 

How the marble tile is installed will have a dramatic effect on its appearance.  For instance, the easiest way to install the tile floor is to have each side of the tile parallel with the walls.  However, installing the tiles in a diagonal pattern will often result in a gorgeous looking marble tile floor.  Be sure to consult with your professional marble tile installer prior to the installation to ensure your complete satisfaction with the finished product.

Once the marble is installed it will require regular cleaning to keep it polished and shining.  Be sure to use a non-abrasive and non-acidic cleaner, which you will find in any store that sells natural stone products.  When using the cleaner be sure to use a rag to rub away the dirt rather than a brush to scrub away dirt since marble can get scratched.
